To discover that your parent is not biologically your parent, is one of the most painful, confusing, and hardest pieces of information to take in. Perhaps you were adopted as a baby or a child, or perhaps your biological father had opted not to be involved in your upbringing for a variety of reasons.
Finding out such news can lead to feelings of anger, emptiness, confusion, and loss of identity. You may begin questioning every element from your childhood through to the present day. Many people who have been delivered such news may be completely unable to shake the feeling of curiosity and longing to find their missing biological parent.
Tracing Services
The desire or drive to trace a birth father may come immediately, or it may gradually descend upon you after a period of consideration and emotions have been worked through. Some choose to trace a birth relative after a significant life event, such as after the birth of their own children, or a death within the family. Some may gradually come to this realisation over time, as curiosity and unanswered questions play heavy on their mind. Everyone has a completely unique set of circumstances.
First Steps
The first step of tracing a birth parent is making that initial call to us. We love to chat and hear peoples’ backgrounds. It is a straightforward and simple process, where you can tell us as much or as little as you are able. We don’t believe that any search is too difficult. We will be completely upfront about whether we feel that we can help. We will explain our options, including price details, and then we will commence the search.
Once we have traced the person using an array of data and sources, we will use our in-house intermediary to establish contact with them, and then you. This will help to foster an arrangement in an emotionally sensitive and supported way. Our work doesn’t end once the search is complete – we work with you through the emotional, exciting, or worrying time of making that all important first contact.
Finding birth relatives who have been involved in an adoption is a regulated field overseen by OFSTED. We work alongside an OFSTED registered adoption agency, ensuring that you get all the help and emotional support that you need. We pride ourselves in being one of the most supportive tracing services in the UK, as well as being completely ethical in all the traces we carry out. We also have stringent safeguarding procedures and designated persons in place who specialise in supporting those affected by adoption.
Tracing a birth parent is one of the very first steps in a long and emotional journey; one that will take time, patience, and support to work through. We are also proud to deliver exceptional aftercare services, such as an intermediary service and counselling provision, for both the tracer and the traced involved.
